Winter’s Song

Underneath the tinsel and the glitter
Beneath the story of a baby in a manger,
Before all that
For millions of years
There were people
With and in the web of living
With the birds and seeds and stars.

In this season
They turned within
They sang, they brought in branches,
They danced with and breathed in life.

The sacred dark of winter
Fed their nervous system
And the stars bathed their being.

They told stories,
They created art,
They wove their lives
With the trees and the sky
They tended and mended
And were whole.

May we, in this season of transformation
Be nourished by the sacred dark
Find our song, and sing it
Maybe for the first time

May our nervous systems be bathed
In the starlight we can’t even see
May we find our restoration
Valuable and all around us.

Your joy, your bliss
Lights the way
And dances with the dark
So you can shine and thrive
All year long.

Blessed be.
